Selena Gomez: "I Felt Different From Everyone Because I Was Mexican."

Growing up Selena Gomez wished she could blend in with the blond girls around her. Selena admitted to Twist magazine:

"I wanted to be like my friends. I hung out with girls who had blue eyes and blond hair and I thought, 'I want to look like them!'"

Acting helped her cope with being different. Sel explains:

"When I went to auditions, I'd be in a room with a lot of blond girls, and I always stood out. It actually helped..

..that I looked different. It got me where I am today! I don't know if I would've had the opportunity to be on Wizards of Waverly Place if it weren't for my heritage. I realize everybody wants what they don't have. But at the end of the day, what you have inside is much more beautiful than what's on the outside!"

Do you think Selena will be a bigger star than her sometimes costar and BFF Miley Cyrus because she is 'different'?

I think both Miley and Selena are very pretty. Sure, Miley's had few bad things going on lately, but she's a teenager what can you expect? Every other girl her age has the same pictures on their myspace and they aren't suddenly bad. I think Selena looks great and it's so great she's got her own show and is becoming more famous everyday.
